Unit 731

I've come to a conclusion that pretty much any horror that you can imagine (fictional or non fictional) pales in comparison to the activities carried out by these monsters. Words like shocking, unbelievable and outrageous are not enough to capture the true horror of experiments on live human beings carried out by them.

Unit 731 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But here is the kicker. You'd think that this kind of behaviour was specific only to Japanese (and the Germans) during the second world war and the condemnation at Tokyo war crimes tribunal extended to severe punishment to all of the participants, well then you'd be pretty far away from the truth. Most of the physicians of unit 731 captured by US were granted immunity from prosecution in exchange for doing reasearch for US millitary, which led to US's own human experimentation on the poor and the "racially unfavourable" further down the line. Unethical human experimentation in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The monster in the shape of the Soviet Union morally upped US on the issue and prosecuted members of the unit they captured (though they kept the research data).

Until this day, not a single US government researcher has been prosecuted for experimentation on humans.

I really hope people remember what happened there because very few lessons have been learnt and as George Santayana prophetically once said "Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it".

From 1913 to 1951, Dr. Leo Stanley, chief surgeon at the San Quentin Prison, performed a wide variety of experiments on hundreds of prisoners at San Quentin. Many of the experiments involved testicular implants, where Stanley would take the testicles out of executed prisoners and surgically implant them into living prisoners. In other experiments, he attempted to implant the testicles of rams, goats, and boars into living prisoners. Stanley also performed various eugenics experiments, and forced sterilizations on San Quentin prisoners.[6] Stanley believed that his experiments would rejuvenate old men, control crime (which he believed had biological causes), and prevent the "unfit" from reproducing.

^^^ what do you think about that?

we can sue for spilling hot water on ourselves: In 1987 the United States Supreme Court ruled in United States v. Stanley, 483 U.S. 669, that a U.S. serviceman who was given LSD without his consent, as part of military experiments, could not sue the U.S. Army for damages.

just curious: what exactly do you hope to accomplish by sharing these? Do you think you will sway the minds of those in disagreement (assuming anyone actually believes these experiments were ethical)?

It's just a small reminder in an ever forgetful world and perhaps a revelation for those who didn't know

Clear San Quentin of all but the real criminals. That would probably be the majority of its occupants. Release them or place them in rehabilitation programs.

As for the rest, the rapists, the pedophiles and the murderers, well, why not use them for the betterment of humanity? Why not make them genuinely repay their debts to society?

If through disemboweling a child rapist we are able to better the lives of human beings that would be fantastic. No rights for monsters. Not human rights, not animal rights.

Dr. Leo Stanley did not descriminate between rapists, pedophiles and common thieves. Being in prison made you a viable test subject regardless of how you got there.

Anyway this is moving away from the point that whatever happened in those dark days of the 1940s are still continuing in various guises and it's a disease of both developing and developed worlds.

Saw a few docs of it on the Tube. One experiment that really stood out from memory, tying the subjects upright onto a board and placing them at certain distances from a bomb explosion.
