I think the engagement is a useless step. Why don't people just get married when they know they want to and that's it.

In more tradional cultures the engagement happens because often the couple is not ready yet to marry (financially and age wise) but they want an official ceremony to commit to one another while waiting for the wedding day. There is usually no turning back then unless somethin terribly wrong happens.

yes nowadays some yound men use it as an escape to elude from marriage and keep their fiancee happy while they are showing their ring.

I'm glad that you guys feel that engagements aren't too necessary ... rings are F'ing expensive! ... I actually skipped the "engagement" part and went straight to wedding planning. And I have a wife of 4 years and a beautiful daughter ... and my team is in the World Series. What more could I ask for?
    no autographs, please!

I've never heard of that view before PP. Are you sure your brother just wasn't talking shit?

Anyway my parents got engaged after only knowing each other for a few months. Been married for 30 years now.
Is it burnin'? Well, f-ck, now you're learnin'.

Has it really been four years? Jeez, time flies!
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
