Friendzone Confusion

I split with my gf of 10 years last year, the spark had faded between us so I personally/gradually managed to move on.

The confusion had come more recently - I work in a fairly large insurance firm and 1 of my female colleagues who I get on with fairly well asked me to go along to a friends party at the weekend. I have liked her for quite a few months, so was somewhat surprised and glad to be asked.

She used to ask all the time about my previous gf at work, and sometimes brush up against me while going to lunch , she has touched me 2 or 3 times in person, but we just casually work as friends. While at the party at the weekend I got asked to stay later by her friends, they even ribbed me/joked with me about my work colleague that we should go out. But I declined and left earlier as I had to go to visit family in east Hamilton the next day (but I did want to stay but couldnt)

Since then she had not really spoken to me at work and any times she has have been formal , I did make a huge mistake a few days ago and email her telling her how I really felt about her, only short and simple nothing major or overly romantic - and she replied saying she just didnt feel the same way and that I am probably not over my ex and when I am I wouldnt like her anyway.

So I'm pretty confused, am I too nice? are all these signals at work just friendly, did she like me but now backed down , I guess I made the fatal flaw, I told her I liked her.

I'm stumped

LOL.....telling her that you liked her wouldn't have been a 'fatal' flaw, had she liked you back.
