I'm Phat but I feel FAT

Ok , sooo i was at the dr for birth control & the dr and i were discussing the different types. He suggested that i get the shot (which makes u get bigger) BUT i can only be at 250lbs or less, Im already 193 & he told me nothin was wrong with it because i dont look like it, Im 5'6 btw, BUT i feel like thats still not acceptable because ppl kno their bodies & they kno how they feel , im scared that i may get huge EVEN tho i dont look like im 200lbs & im basically am, like i dont like my stomach ! i hate it , it's not that bad i jus feel like it can be smaller .. ive tried working out, and i got a sweat burner belt BUT i gained MORE weight from doing that, i started eating fruits & vegetables like A LOT of them since Dec-Jan, i dont understand i think it's because im stressin ( senior year ) cause when i get bored or anything i eat like food really relieves me lol but i eat healthy things like fruits soo i wont gain but im still gainin

idk what to do, ppl tell me not to worry about it, but u kno thats a health problem if u get at a certain weight & i dont want to go thru that !

You should get some blood work done first to see if you are having issues with your thyroid. As for gaining weight working out, you need to stay off the scale because if you develop muscle you will be heavier, because muscle is denser than fat. What you need to do is to take measurements around your waist, hips, thighs, calves and arms. Keep a journal and measure yourself one a month. Second, get yourself a calorie count book that lists all the food you eat and keep track of everything that goes into your mouth in a food journal every single day. For your height you should only be taking in 1200 calories a day. I will tell you this, it adds up. A muffin can be as high as 400 calories.

You have to remember this is not a quick fix ordeal. You must change your eating and lifestyle habits for life. Even people who are normal weight....if they drink too much alcohol or have too much fat in their diet will develop diseases like diabetes and you my dear are a strong candidate for it because of your weight.

I'm 5'5' 135 lbs and since I'm over 40 I'm a candidate for heart disease and high cholesterol even at this weight. By my doctors calculations I should be at 115 lbs.

So you are right. You need to take charge of your eating habits in order to stay healthy your whole life. I suggest you go back to your doctor and see if he can set you up with a nutritionist and get you started on a exercise program. Stay away from those fade exercise things you see on TV. They do not work. Just good old fashion walking, hiking and running will work. So it's a start....you must stay off the couch and keep moving, keep busy and stop using food to reward yourself......

Ok fruit is good for you but the sugars in fruit are just as bad as sugars in anything else. There is a lot of debate on whether negative calorie foods actually contains less calories than it takes to burn them, but even if that is not the case, the calorie content is still so low that you can munch away til your hearts content. Celery is extrememly good for you, negative calories and great for just munching on. Strawberries aswell.

If you have to have a lot of fruit try to avoid tropical fruits and stone fruits. They are all very high in sugar content.

And for vegetables, try to avoid eating red, orange and yellow ones, and starches such as corn, beets and potatoes. Eat leafy dark greens like spinach,...broccoli is good too because it's a good source of calcium. Avocados are high in calories too so eat those on occasion.

Oh and another thing, stay away from juices and diet sodas. Juices contain more sugar than some sodas, and anything diet like diet soda is empty calories and will make you have low blood sugar which is called crashing, it brings on cravings and bindging.

If you really need help with this there is weight watchers. I know so many people that have had great success with it. Meal planning and points counting is made so easy. My mom loves it!

Weight watchers is a great idea, though if you can't stand the idea of all those meetings and things, try calorieking.com. You start a profile, put in your weight height age goals etc and it will come back with sugested meal and exercise plans. You can also put in any food you eat and find the calorie content. What it will not tell you though is how much fat, protein and carbs you are eating and these too are improtant.

Start researching food. Google 'negative calorie foods' or 'protein and carb balance'. Learn what GI means. If you arm yourself with knowledge there is no battle you can't win.

that is true, and another advantage of weight watchers is if you find nutritional information confusing, they explain everything for you. My only problem with weight watchers is because everything is on a point system, you miss out on learning all about calories.

I prefer getting nutritional facts myself, but when someone struggles a lot with their weight, trying to loose it can be very overwhelming and can cause anxiety and frustration to the point of giving up. That's why the point system is ideal because it follows very simple rules when eating at home and eating at restaurants and there no calorie calculation or weighing food like in the old days. My mom really likes the improved points system, she says it's way easier to stick with it.

I know there are some of us that are more into nutrition more than others, and the importance of it, but one thing I learned tho is that most who are over weight would rather eat that bagel or donut without being told how many calories are in it lol. In other words they don't want to hear it.

I guess the points system would weight up things like carbs in pasta too. I have a friend trying to lose weight, staying within her caloie count but not losing weight. When I asked her what she had eaten that day, she had started with toast, had pasta for lunch and mashed 'taters with her dinner. When I told her what carps do she understood where she went wrong.

So, I agree, try weight watchers. If that works well for you, you can learn more about nutrition down the track and start figuring out a healthy diet for yourself.

The best bet is to eat food in it's truest form.....stay away from instant meals, boxed or canned food, and anything processed. Make your soups fresh, bake, grill or broil your meats, eat fresh foods, stay away from sugar. You can't do everything over night. It will take time to adjust to news foods. Eventually you will really enjoy it. Anything new will be a bit challenging at first, but don't get discouraged. When I go out for lunch I have sushi instead of a hamburger. You will learn to making changes to your choices as you go along too.

mmmmmm hamburger! I am so glad I live in country that still knows how to do burgers well and hasn't been (quite) completely taken over by fast food joints.

Here is Aus we have an add campaign for people that want to lose weight called 'swappers'. The basic idea is to not stop anything, just swap it. Swap soft drink for water, swap catching the bus for walking, swap 3 scoops of icecream for just one. I like this idea.

We have the same idea...it's old skool, use margarine instead of butter, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc. It's a good start
