    Obscure, underrated movies

Iv' just seen an 70s movie called Hoffman with Peter Sellers...a very interesting plot which some may find boring but that I would encourage you to watch till the end.

Is there a not so well known, under-rated or old movie you think is worth watching?

"High fidelity" perhaps? Not sure how popular it was in the States/Canada, but very few of my friends here have even heard of it - let aside watching it.

The novel of course is much better as usual (and would definitely recommend reading it, especially if you're going through a breakup - somehow adds humor to it), but the movie is not a bad adaptation. Not bad at all.

"David and Lisa"--excellent film about a man and woman who find love in a psychiatric ward. Very touching
"Private Schulz" --off the wall British comedy about a real German plot to counterfeit British currency during WWII
"Porterhouse Blue"--a tongue-in-cheek comedy about academia...more real than you can imagine.

Now I'm intrigued - will be adding it to my blockbuster account... What discipline?

Suppposed to be one of the Cambridge colleges (fictional, of course). It is totally hillarious in terms of British humor--a four part series. Total insanity. Tradition run amok; sexual lunacy; old boy school shenanigans.... I had a friend in academia watch and he couldn't finish it. He said it was too close to reality!!!

Not enough people have seen Idiocracy. Brilliant but a little too plausible.

Ummm, most of my DVDs are apparently of the cult genre. Some of my favourite movies are

Lost Highway - A David Lynch film that I have seen at least 20 times and still don't understand it.
Night Watch - Russian fantasy movie. First of an unfinished trilogy. Day Watch was no where near as good.

I like groundhog day. Not for the comedy, but for the way lead character turned what starts as a negative into a positive.

    Some on my favorites list:

The Man From Earth - a fascinating thought experiment translated into a movie. Everything is dialogue conducted in a single room.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension - Peter Weller sci-fi spoof

Crazy People - Dustin Hoffman comedy about a ad-copy writer that gets tossed in the looney bin.

Being There - Peter Sellers tragi-comic commentary on american politics.

Undercover Blues - Kathleen Turner and Dennis Quaid, a spy-movie spoof, riotously funny.
