communicating through email?

ok I met this girl, and I got her email. I don't really know her that well yet, but I am interested in her. And I think she's taking slight interest in me as well. I don't meet her very often, only during classes. And she sits with her friends, and I sit with my friend. So my best chance is to get to know her outside the classroom.

I've never really communicated to any friends through email. I text them. would you say that this is an appropriate form of communication with a girl?

also, I feel like I should get to know her more first before I ask her out for lunch or something. Am I on the right track?

Everything is good communication, as long as you are progressing things forward with her and not simply making dumb conversation.
