I wouldn't hang around waiting for someone to make up their mind. Life's too short for that and every moment is precious. What happens if 3 months down the track he has made his decision not to reconcile? Think of those 3 months you could have spent moving on and picking yourself up after a tough break-up not to mention having fun, being out there meeting new people and stuff.

Don't allow someone else to control your happiness and life. That is foolish behaviour. You have done the right thing saying goodbye and now he is the one that is going to have to deal with that. Move on.
