Boyfriend and Girlfriend labels

Do you all feel that having the label of boyfriend or girlfriend is a sign of possessiveness and selfish? When it comes down to it, does getting to know someone with out the labels, being friends first before a serious relationship has its benefits in the long run?

Having a label isn't a sign of possessiveness. What do you call someone your in an exclusive sexual relationship with other than your girlfriend?

Having a friendship before a relationship matters on the people involved. There are great women I've been able to connect with instantly without prior friendship. Other women I've connected with only gradually, through friendship.
