    Ex wanting to rebuild friendship?

    Hi, long story short:

we met when he had a LDR. We fell in love. He broke up with her to be with me.
Then he broke up with me, saying we weren't happy together.
He got back with his LDR gf.
After months of NC, he emailed me to say sorry, and that he's with his ex gf now,
and if I'm ok with it, we can rebuild our friendship.
I replied him with gratitude and tho I didn't ask him anything, he replied with an email talking about himself and asking questions about me. I didn't reply again.

Then, recently I saw him again and he invited me to this BBQ (him and his friends' BBQ).
The first time I said I had plans for dinner but he laughed and said the BBQ is for lunch.
Then I just focused on talking to other people, but then he brought it up again (He invited me to the BBQ again).

Why is he doing these things? I barely paid attention to him and I have been quite cold to him in our interactions.

He is keeping you in his back pocket so he will have you there close by when things don't work out with the ex. Maybe use him to meet other guys at these bbqs.

OR he has a buddy that is looking......

He is a weak sort and he's a waffler who left a woman to be with you and then left you to go back to her.\\\

I think it's time you banished him from your life forever. Don't even answer him or consider his invitations. Why would you want him in your life when he so easily jumps from one and then easialy goes back again. Pfffft.

    Thanks smackie9 for your insight
After the breakup I went through huge transformations, for the better~I'm very beautiful inside and outside now, so perhaps that's also 1 of the reasons he can't let go...
But, he's too late --- I look forward and I know exactly what I want.

Thanks Wakeup! Well I do think the key was that we both were insecure and lacked confidence. We didn't love ourselves.
And because of the breakup, I have promptly turned into a confident, positive person who loves myself.
And I have always been a loyal person...so we are quite different people.
I hope that one day he can love himself too, because you can only accept true love and truly love someone when you love yourself!
Thanks for your advice, Wakeup! I appreciate your help
