Let it be?
I've known a guy less than a month, we both knew he was going to be deploying soon. So yesterday he asked me to talk to him because he found out more about the deployment. He'll be leaving 1-4 weeks, doesn't know anything else such as location or how long, and said, almost verbatim "I think we should avoid each other until I leave so neither of us get attached because I we won't be able to communicate with each other." I said, "I understand." And watched the last episode of a series we were watching. Stayed for about an hour longer, we sort of spoke, but it was more silent than not. Do I actually have to leave it at that, or can I go back and say something else?

He already told you to avoid any contact until he leaves. It's obvious is isn't looking for anything full time with you, so don't push for it, you will only get hurt.

I say you take the hint...he isn't interested in you anymore and doesn't have the balls to say it explicitly. Move on and find someone better.
