Okies. We've had "Asian" threads, "Latino" threads, time for a thread for people with mixed heritage!

I think we'd be hard pressed to find someone who's blood isn't mixed somewhere along the line with different ethincities. It's not about blood to me.

I ask you, Quiche...what do you identify yourself with? It may be a cultural hybrid, and that's okay...but can you somewhat describe/define it?

I'll give you an example...I identify myself with the Mexican culture..but a subdivision is the North Mexican culture, further more Chihuahua state, furthermore, Chihuahua city...we can go right down to the family and then individual level...yet we can expand it all the way out to say I'm Latino..where it encompasses several countries.

Even so..I'd like to think it's not that important..it's just to have a little fun with. Things are only as important as you want them to be.

Here are 2 short based conversations I go through when I'm asked what I Identify myself as.

Person: What nationality are you?
Me: I'm Eurasian.
Person: What's that?
Me: A person with both asian and european descent.
Person: Oh, where are your parents from?
Me: My dad is English, my mum is Filipino.
Person: Where's Phili.... (They add whatever suffix here - Such as "Philiphinia).
Me: (point of annoyance) Philiphines is located in SE Asia.

Boy/girl: what?
Me: my mother is Filipino, my father is english.
Boy/girl: How interesting!!! your so lucky! best of both worlds! hey? hey? hey?
Me:whatever

As you can see I identify myself as "Eurasian". I've also stopped using the term "Half", in some sense I see it as "degrading". The thing with cultural identity is everyone assumes that one has to side with one or the other. Your either "Asian" or your "english". Unlike me, I choose to be in the grey area. Not asian, not english but as "Eurasian".

Genetic make-up of a typical Filipino is %80 Malay, %10 Chinese, not sure with the remaining %10, it's made up of various other races.

I mean, it's really 1 continent, not two.

See, I can understand North and South America, they're barely connected, but Europe is so thoroughly meshed in with Asia.

First of all, congratulations to nomas for the play on Kiechi's name. I have been trying for days to figure out how to spell "quiche" so I could do that. Your vocabulary has surpassed me... once. But you should be proud.

I find out that I represent more and more ethnicities the longer I'm alive. Here's the current rap:

Irish, Greek, Spanish, and German.
