    petz

just wondered what most of you people think of pets?
does your local area suffers from any problem regarding stray cats, dogs, rabies and so on?

it's disturbing how little people know about it in my country, and the insensitivity shown in big cities towards this issue.

I love pets. I have 2 cats (one recently passed away).
We only see a stray cat around every once in a while. Theres probably other stray animals out there as well. Our area really doesn't have a problem with rabies, etc. Its a rare occurance to hear of it.

Yes, its disturbing to hear how some big cities can have such a problem. The fact that they would let such a problem get so big is crazy. I guess they (the cities with the problem) have hit a point where they can't do much about it anymore.

My father used to work for the humane society so he knows a lot about the problems associated with stray animals and such. The majority of the strays are from other strays or from people who dont care to have their animals spayed or neutered. Its really mainly because of the irresponsibility of the owner that we have this problem.
The only way to stop the problem, since the owners wont help, is to put them down or try to adopt out as many as possible. Sadly, there isnt enough room in the entire county to even try to adopt them all off.
It's similar to a used car dealership, the animals are brought in (most of the time by an owner who just doesnt want them anymore), are assessed, and are either taken to the back to be euthanized or taken to the front to be sold.

@fawn: every given area has a "capacity" for stray animals(which is determind by factores such as people that feed stray animals. edible garbage, restaurant and so on). that capactiy cannot be exceeded, and will self balance in such case. if, for example, a certain city can contain 1000 stray cats, and someone throws in 40 more cats? 40 other cats "dissapear". they might get killed by cars, other cats, sadistic peoples and starvation, some might simply leave and some lucky ones might get adopted, but whatever happens, if you'll check next week, you'll see that there are exactly 1000 cats again.

my dad is a vet, and he spands the day "mutilating" cats. why? think of all the kittens that wouldv'e been born just to suffer and die if he wouldn't have intervened(as ALovelyLady86 might know). I happen to speak to many of those who frequent his clinic, and many of them have to fight with their neighbors in order to continue to take care of the cats and so on. and every once in awhile, someone decides to thin down the population of the cats by poisoning and so on. the list seems endless.

I can go on blabbering for pages about it, so to shorten it, the problem around my parts, is, essentialy, the lack of careness, ignorence, and crapy, corrupted authorities that are the primary reasons for this situation...

I do have a pet fish hes cute, and gets all excited when he sees kenny.
My mom is breeding ragdoll cats. Im gonna get pick of the litter i am so excited, these cats are so cool when you pick them up a certain way they lie limp in your arms like a ragdoll. they are smart and not big communicators unless they want something. My asia blue she grrrrrrowls when a stranger comes to the door its a lowl growl the first tim i heard it i thought it was verry strange. Im currently looking into the West highland white terrier. Im searching thrugh the westie rescue first to see if i can adopt first.

Principium I can definately relate. I believe the problem no matter where you live is the same, over-birthing and careless people. We have to remember these animals only know what their instincts tell them. This is to mate, eat, sleep and poop. If we cant intervene with our own pets and have them spayed or neutered then they will give birth to more who will most likely not have a home.
It really is a sad situation, but no one cares enough to do anything about it except for the few people who have opened shelters that survive only on donations.

As for the animals we have...I have a British Shorthair Cat.. shes really sweet, very smart, hates to be held lol, and loves her mommy

I don't know how it goes wherever you're living, but the "heavy" clients in this business are usually self sustained and take care of stray animals at their own expence.

quite obviously, anyone has it's own limits. there are some people that hold about 20 animals in a 3 room apartment, dealing with the constant stream of garbage, and spending everything they have on the animals. they don't really live seem to live...
and in most cases it ends badly: either the owners get sick of everything, and just leave the animals to die, or in some cases the owners just poison the lot. and no one gives a shit in the end.(and with all of the other bad things that happen in this world, it's no wonder...)
