need to let off some steam :(

Today I started work at 10:30 am, walked down town at 11:30 and handed out 300 flyers in shops and local newspapers. At 12:45 I got a text saying hand out flyers every hour for fifteen minutes.. I said fine and went ahead and did it. At half 1 I got a phone call saying from now on I have to stand outside the door for at least 6 hours a day and hand out flyers. I had an argument with him on the phone and told him that is too much, its too warm and I am wearing heels. I also argued that I have already handed out loads of flyers this week and I said I don't mind doing 15 minutes every hour but standing out there for 6 hours a day.. he said everyone has to do it and its orders from head office

Anyway I did it from 1:30 until 4. I just rang two of my colleagues in different locations and they both were shocked. They said they don't have to do it. They are just doing 15 minutes every hour. I am really upset at this. Why has he singled me out? And I feel picked on.. i rang HR and she said I only have to do 15 mins every hour. She said that was very unreasonable

After coming in from being outside for two and a half hours, I have a splitting headache and I actually cried which is not like me. It takes A LOT to upset me that much. I am so angry and I am not sure whether to ring him and tell him what a prick he is or just let it go? What do you think?

There is a clothes store next door to me, I asked them for a job. The girl in there told me that the boss had already mentioned me, that he thought I would be perfect for it as I am young with good experience, pretty and fashionable and she was gonna come and ask me. I am soo excited. I am giving him my CV on Saturday. I will be running a fashion outlet if I get it so fingers crossed I will be starting the end of August if I get it

Sorry you've had such a tough day Michelle, I don't think you should call him to tell him he's a prick but I don't think you should let it go either. If it were me I'd call him and tell him I'd been in touch with HR, inform him of what they said, and let him know that they were alarmed to hear what was being demanded of me - and seemingly only me. If it were orders from Head Office he would a. have some documented proof of that and b. HR would be aware of it. Why he would target you and you alone I know not, but either way I would tell him that I'd be doing the required 15 minutes per hour from now on and if he has an issue with that he should speak with HR directly.

Thanks Millie. I think I will send that to him in a text and then just let it go. Im still so annoyed over it. He singled me out because he annoyed me the other day too and I had a bit of an attitude with him. He was here and he said "ill cover for you if you want to hand out flyers" and I said fine Ill go down town for twenty minutes and put them into local newspapers or shops and he said no just stand outside the door. So I was annoyed coz I thought it was pointless us both being here especially when I could hand out 200 down town in 20 minutes and probably 5 standing outside.

So now I am in his little black book

So you think he's effectively punishing you for showing him attitude? There are laws against work-place bullying, which is basically what that is, and procedures to follow if he felt you were out of line - tell him HR can advise him on that also. That said, if he's the boss and he said he wanted you to just stand outside the door unfortunately that's what you have to do, even if your idea would ultimately be more productive.

He did this to make you quit. This is a typical practice amongst employers, they do things like this within my own company. It's a good thing you are motivated to just move on. Don't be vengeful because this will bite you in the ass if you need a reference from him. Resign in a professional manner, thank him for letting you have an opportunity to work for him, and that you have found a great opportunity that you couldn't pass up.

Just because he is a douche doesn't mean you should act douchey back.

Hes a new supervisor. He has come in on a power trip. I was warned about him. Its not just me that he is winding up-another colleague hates him too. He is on a 3 month probationary period so he better thread carefully. I have never reported anyone before now but I am not gonna stand for this s**t. I am getting out of here though.

I dont need a reference from him. I can get one from the supervisor before him-I have his private mobile if I ever need help with a job and Bernie-the HR manager will also give me a reference.

The reason it annoyed me so much is coz I hand flyers into those papers EVERY week and I dont need to ask anyones permission. I manage this store alone 6 days a week and they fact he thought he can come in here and tell me how to do my job which I have been doing really well for 3 years with no complaints just really wound me up.

Plus he blatantly lied on the phone. We argued for about 5 minutes, he made me feel like I was being unreasonable, I am wrong coz everyone has to do it and it is orders from above. I felt as if I was the only one who had a problem with it and eventually said fine okay ill do it. 2 and half hours later, a pounding headache, stressed to the point of crying-I finally cracked and rang around to find out everything he said was BS. He lied through his teeth and I was well within my rights to argue with him

I dont think he knows yet that I rang HR so he will probably ring me today again and ask why I am not outside all day. I will just tell him I am not doing it and if he has a problem ring HR. I will do my 15 minutes every hour like everyone else has to but that's it. I am not standing out there for 6 hours.

Why is he new? Why was your old supervisor replaced? It's possible your company is making changes, and they chose your store to see what method will make an increase in sales. It is possible he is getting orders from higher up. Anyways lets hope your HR dept will get on this. If he does it again, don't let him in on you going to HR, you just go back to HR again and let them handle it. You want to handle this in a professional manner like I said before. Being vengeful will only get you into more trouble with this if you don't handle yourself well. Prove to him and your company that you are the bigger person in all this.

He was working as a store manager and the old supervisor left so he was promoted but on a probationary period of 3 months.

Im out of flyers again so he said he would bring me more but I am not allowed to put them in newspapers this time... To me that is just his way of saying we would rather you sweating outside the door then putting 500 into the local papers. What an asshole

I cant wait to get out of here

And no they didnt choose my store as head office new nothing about it. I said to him on the phone that I have been working here for 3 years and nobody has ever asked me to stand outside all day. It was obvious I didnt believe him and he bluffed away, lied through his teeth but I have proof that I was not required to do that

I have decided to keep a record-a file with dates etc on them and any proof I have and if I have 3 or 4 solid things to go on I will make a complaint before I leave. I am not going to let him get away with trying to bully me

This is what I have so far. Should I change anything? Also should I wait until I have more to complain about or send it now? It may seem petty to complain over one incident but I can see it in him that he is going to be a total nightmare once his probationary period ends and his job is secure. He has already really annoyed 3 of us. And I think what he did was just plain nasty on Thursday. I dont want to let him get away with it.

    Thursday 11/07/13
Today I started work at 10:30 am, I walked down town at 11:30 and spent fifteen minutes handing out 300 flyers in shops and local newspapers. At 11:45 I got a text saying “hand out flyers every hour for fifteen minutes”. I said fine and went ahead and did it. At 1:20 I got a phone call from Daniel saying from now on I have to stand outside the door for at least 6 hours a day and hand out flyers. I had an argument with him on the phone, we argued for at least five to ten minutes and I told him that is too much, it’s too warm and I feel it is unreasonable to expect me to stand out there all day without a break. I also argued that I have already handed out loads of flyers this week and I said I don't mind doing 15 minutes every hour but standing out there for 6 hours a day is too much.. He was adamant that everyone has to do, that he is going to ring the rest of the shops now and tell them to do it and its orders from head office. He swore it wasn’t him telling me to do this-that he is just doing his job.
We also argued because he insinuated that me handing flyers into newspapers is not bringing in deals so therefore I should not be doing it. I said I got one deal from it last week, so far I have gotten none from standing outside or for putting them in shops. I said those newspapers are sold out every single week and they specifically reach our target market. Even if those people do not come in for 3-6months-they will at some point. While we argued on the phone, I could also hear someone laughing in the background at one point. I was annoyed at this too.

I stood outside from 1:30 until 4 with a short break for lunch in between. Eventually I had a pounding headache from the heat, I was sweating, felt weak and dizzy and my feet were swollen and sore. I was also frustrated and angry and close to tears so I decided to ring Rosie in Killarney just to see how she was finding it. She was shocked as she got the same text at 11:45 but no phone call. She was just doing 15 minutes every hour. I was really upset at this. I rang Bernie and she said I only have to do 15 minutes every hour so it was obvious that these orders did not come from head office.

I am still quite upset and angry at this. I had a pounding headache until I went to bed Thursday night. I feel like he singled me out and was trying to punish me as I will admit that I have found it difficult to work with him and I think it may be a case of a personality clash.
I have handed out as many flyers as I possibly can over this past month. I am doing everything to try and get more deals and new customers. But everything I do is contradicted.

    Saturday 13/07/12
I ran out of Flyers again this morning and I asked Daniel to bring more. He said he will but I am not allowed to put the new ones into newspapers. I don’t understand why as I think it is a very productive way to get our name to all the locals.
