Treating her right after being rejected

NOTE : this is a repost from the teenager love forum. if you have commented on one, please dont bother for the other one. This is me just being on the safe side.

    Hello,

I am having a hard time figuring this out.

A month back, I proposed a girl, a classmate of mine, and she sort of declined. It didn't bother me much then, cause I have been prone to infatuations before and acted on them without giving much thought into the consequences. My friend circle knew about it, and as this girl is not particularly bright (she's sort of naive and gullible), I immediately became the butt of their jokes. I didn't mind it much, as I knew this was inevitable.

In a few days, we had our vacations. But the thing is, as the college has resumed, I have encountered her a few times, in passing. Let me mention here that before I went ahead with my proposal, we were on very good terms. We used to be enthusiastic when we met, and maybe that made me go ahead. But now, since I have my friends around me, and if I see her, I dont know how to react to her, as in how to greet and act. And my bastard friends aren't helping the situation (it gets on your nerves sometimes).

I really don't want to be a passive aggressive asshole, but my ambition notwithstanding, I find it unnatural to act like nothing ever happened, or that maybe we are on similar terms as we were before.

I really need some help here guys.
