He's fallen out of love with you and He's made it clear dear.... I really don't think a break is what you two need... you need to be together to work it out. That's just what I think.

There's part of me that thinks the same thing, but I don't want to overload him, and he sounds so confused I don't know if it would just make things worse.

I feel like a mess now as well, so it's hard to work out what I want.

If he's no longer in love with you then a break will not change any of this. If you have a problem then either resolve it or end the relationship. Cutting off communication will not help resolve a problem, merely delays the inevitable. Leave him and get out dating.

I think I need to just pull myself together and talk to him about it.

Talk to him about what? How he doesn't love you? Save yourself the drama and just end it now.
