I need to look less menacing?

I'm only 21, but I've had 3 girls at college so far tell me they thought I was like 28 and a creep for hitting on them. I've also been told I "Intimidate" them.....After a few years in the Marine Infantry and working in a prison I guess I naturally look a little angry, but I smile when flirting and have a positive face. I'm trying to get a girl while in school and have the "Crazy college" years I keep hearing about....but so far I'm a loner and everyone seems to either be intimidated or threatened by my presence.

I've been living in Southern Cali and I've moved to AR so I don't really fit in to begin with lol, but I'm kinda lonely and only having school to occupy my time, I have a LOT of downtime and I'm worried I'll get depressed if I don't get back in the dating game.

One girl I've been having lunch with on and off for the past few weeks just got dumped by her BF (He was upset that she kept having lunch with me...I dunno why?) and she seems really nice, but she keeps ignoring me and when her friends are around she pretends I'm not even there. I dunno if they just don't know how to act around me or what? Should I just keep trying with her and ask her why she's ignoring me or what? I'm really bored and lonely here.

I don't think that will prevent women from being attracted to you, because as I said, you are good-looking, but if you want to make yourself look more approachable, you better smile a lot, and maybe preppy-up your look a little (polo shirts?). And keep that tattoo covered.

So, should I just stick with the girl I've been having lunch with? I think she likes me, but she keeps ignoring my texts. In class she's very flirty and fun, but from her body language and tone of voice changes I can tell she's nervous, but that could be just because I'm older, she's 19. It's weird only being a few years older than these kids and feeling so separated from them. They seem so naive and I can't really talk to them. I stopped mentioning I was a Marine the first day of class since EVERYONE seems to think its okay to ask "DID YOU KILL ANYONE!!!???" apparently they dont realize that's as private as me asking "Does your father enjoy his prostate being stimulated?!?!?!"

I've got class today and I really want to be sociable and go out, date, party, drink, ect and have the college fun everyone talks about, but these kids just...seem F'ed up.

I tried the preppy look actually a few times and this girl I hooked up with a few months back told me I looked like a snob. Generally I trust sluts opinion since they have no reason to lie lol, but I was wearing some American Eagle stuff and Hollister jeans. I thought I looked a lot younger in it and more approachable, but apparently I just looked like a douche lol

But very cute (Not to be weird- I'm gay), and you would imagine looking stronger would be a good thing? *shrugs* Maybe they're just into the guys who look like they're plastic-not actually realistically strong looking.
Maybe they just mean that you need to smile more?

I don't think there's really anything to change besides finding a girl who will give you a chance- not just judge you based on your appearance. That's just my take, though.
Personally, the first and the last are the best pictures of you, in my opinion.
