I would like a dog and cannot decide I was looking at dog breeds and these three smaller dogs are choices I liked but I do not know much about them. Has any member owned any of these dog breeds?

not a fan of little dogs, but out of the three you listed my aunt has a jack russell, it's a good dog, intelligent and easy to train but like all dogs has its drawbacks. here is a link on the jrt, you can run the other two dogs through the website and read about pugs and french bulldogs too probably.

Thank-you, Exeter19 and anya_may21.
Exeter19 I will look through the link you supplied me. Has your aunt ever mentioned any issues with her Jack Russell?
anya_may21 Do the girlfriends that own pugs have any training issues, or house issues with them?
Does any member here own or have friends or family who owns a french bulldog?

I looked up all three breeds on your link, this is such an excellent link it really helps, thank you again. It also covers all small dog breeds and gives lots of pros and cons, I will continue reading through their website.![]()
you're welcome, lovebroken. did you find any other breeds you liked outside of the 3 you posted and did any of the new info turn you off any of them?

I didn't like the health issues involved with french bulldogs and pugs caused by their facial deformities ( called this in the website) I didn't realise that was even a problem with those breeds and never knew pugs were heavy shedders either.
I liked the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel they have a good disposition and sweet face but unfortunately it said a shorter life span.

I wouldn't pick any of those dogs but out of the choices you gave this is the only one if forced I'd pick =) I'm a fan of Boxers the most.
Most of these specialized breeded dogs have a lot of health issues and in later years you'll be having a huge vet bill with them and what looks cute when a pup doesn't when an adult dog for most of them.
Thank you, somehelp4me. I researched the last dogs image I posted more and they have a unique heart aliment that is painful to their breed. I did look up pugs and french bulldogs as adult older dogs and I have to agree with you. The other two breeds stay as cute though.
have you decided yet, lovebroken, do you live in a house or a small apartment, if the latter look up breeds good for apartment living online.

In a house but will be moving to an apartment with the dog but with a park nearby to walk.
I'm thinking the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as a first choice and the Jack Russel as a second. If I can find either here, I researched pugs more and decided against because of their breathing and health issues.
What about a beagle dog like Snoopy. This image is cute but they are loving dogs too

It's not what you have, it's what you do with what you have that matters.
Luvs snoopyMy cousin pointed out that there are "long" haired chihuahuas. I didn't know only knew about the furless ones (bald ones that shake and quiver, I find those ugly.)
But the long haired ones are cute dogs.

All the dogs pics are cute to me, the last image looks like a small lassie dog to me ~ I don't know much about dog breeds but off just cuteness I'd pick the last dog you posted. I'm not any help but opened thread & was in love with all the pictures of the dogs.

Thanks for replying, breathe123, I love the dogs too and it makes it very difficult to choose. Has to be a small dog for me because of where I live and amount of money I can spend on food and care, large dogs take a lot more space, room, food and caring for and wouldn't be right to get one of those now for me. The last breed doesn't have the difficulties the pug, bulldogs have at least. Will be deciding in 2015, excited to get my dog![]()
I just had to add to this post. Mainly because I have just got a pup and done a huge amount of research as to what is suitable to various situations. My research led me to a cockapoo as I wanted a smallish dog, but one that could hold its own with small children AND not be naturally a hunter (as have cats too). I have subsequently got my cockapoo who is absolutely fabulous but I wouldn't recommend for a flat, however, there are different breeds who are bred with poodles, such as a cavapoo which is a cross between a cavalier and a poodle. They are smaller and less engergetic and the big bonus is they don't shed especially if you get a cavapoo F2, I think they call it which is a cavapoo crossed with a poodle. Because of the poodle bit, they are good for homes with allergies (if you have children with asthma for instance). I never thought of a poodle type dog but they are gorgeous. Just make sure you go to a reputable breeder whatever you decide.
Beagles, are cute but high energy and not suited to flats. Don't know about pugs though so they could be o.k.
Good luck but remember, they are dogs and dogs do need attention much more than cats. You can leave a cat all day and he will be happy but a dog won't.

sorry meant to say they have to be crossed with a minature or toy poodle to be small
