gender weight sensitivity

If you go up to a guy and remark how much weight he has put on...he either laughs or jokes about it. Do the same to a woman and you probably get the same reaction if you kicked her in the stomach.
When male friends have commented on my overweight issues...I considered it a favor because it kept me in check.
My feeling is that most women are much more tied to emotions than intellectual reason at least when it comes to personal appearance. Any insights or comments?

If your feelings were hurt then they used the wrong words to convey the message of weight loss or health in general. The only favour that existed was that you still allow them your friendship
