I am CONFUSED as to why he broke up with me

Hi I had a bf for over 2 years. We talked about how serious we are and always talked about being together forever. We are 21 years old btw. All of a sudden, he breaks up with me because he needed to grow on his own and said he doesn't know if he will consider me back. He said this after I kept bothering him over the weekend because he spending more time with his friends since they got back for the summer. I know I was being selfish and inconsiderate. I tried apologizing to him but he did not forgive me 100%. I am not usually that way. When we were together, we loved each other very much. It still seems so unclear to me because we've always tried to work things out and now he just stopped trying. He also cried a lot when he told me he is separating with me. So it's very confusing, why doesn't he just try to work it out?! Will he come back to me?! He said he doesn't know if he will but said he is still my bestfriend and will always keep in touch with me. Will be back together romatically?! Do I have to stop talking to him completely for a while for him to realize he misses me or will he just get over me...

He needs space ,this is common and happens alot ,you have to be supportive for his sake at least...he may be going through something ,just dont give him a hard time and be patient ,hopefully and most likely he'll get back to you as soon as he could.

It's quite likely that he was already reconsidering the relationship and the weekend issue was what pushed him to make a decision.

If he won't take you back, don't be his best friend. It will be harder for you to move on.
