Boyfriend still talking to his ex?

Me and my boyfriend have been dating almost a year now and we will be living together soon. He always tells me he has nothing to hide and will tell me anything if I ask. A few days ago i used his phone to text someone and the app opened to a conversation with his ex of 4 years. There were messages from every day of the last month or so, saying things like 'I had another dream about you last night', 'call if you need anything', and things that sounded like he was making plans to see her. From what I could see, she hasn't responded to any of the messages. I've never directly asked him to cut off contact with her, but I had told him it makes me uncomfortable. I told him this a while ago and he said it would stop. Why am I finding messages like this? I asked and he said a friend had used his phone to text her. I love him a lot and am trying to make sense of this so I can move past it, but something feels off to me.

Some exes are still good friends & have love for eachother ( platonic NOT romantic love) not all break ups end with hating the other. Maybe you could become friends with her too, is she dating or single, would it bother you less if she was dating?
