richardrli, I already told you why I think Harun Yahya is a joke. I will post it again so you can read it. "Most of his material are recycled versions of old creationism propaganda, which have been refuted. He purposely misquotes scientists and misinterprets evolution to prey on the gullible." For example, he says evolution cannot be true b/c it violates the 2nd law of thermodynamics. He blatantly disregards that Earth is an open energy system recieving its energy from the sun. Harun also purposely uses quotes by scientists taken out of context to make it appear like they do not support evolution when in fact, the opposite is true. He has not done any research to disprove evolution. All he's done is take old creationism propaganda and repackage it as "revolutionary" and "new" islamic creationism. Don't believe the hype.

To respond to your second question, yes it's hard for me to accept a belief that has no shred of evidence to suppport it. I might as well believe in floating turds in space or invisible unicorns prancing around under my bed. At least the Big Bang Theory, Evolutionary Theory, Quantum Theory, etc. all have evidence to support them. We may not currently know everything about the universe but we are learning as the days go by. Remember only a few thousand yrs ago humans thought a god was responsible for lightning. Now we understand positive and negative charges. Just b/c you don't understand something doesn't mean God is the only explanation.

    I do.

Also anyone trying to refute the idea of evolution has been locked in a closet for his entire life. He is a joke by default if he tried to refute evolution.

    Keep this thread civil.

The original question was to ask for your input, NOT to slam each other in an attempt to prove each other wrong or talk about who is smarter or has more knowledge on the subject at hand.

Religion is a debate that NONE of you are going to win. You aren't going to prove or disprove anything, and you will not change anyone's opinions about it. Once they have posted their ideas, you should immediately realize that no matter how much "righter" you think you are about religion, you aren't going to change anyone else's belief.

Share your thoughts, then STFU. Do not engage in a battle of "Whose beliefs are true and who is full of shit". There is no room for this here.

Any thread in this topic from this point on attempting to "prove someone" right or wrong will be deleted, and may find their previous 5-60 posts deleted as well.

Whats your problem? Why do you care, this is Off topic right?

That's sheer speculation. Also.......Isn't it a strange coincidence how the most uneducated and poor are the most religious? They need the idea of God to give their life some purpose and explain some of the things they don't understand (like SCIENCE).

    Thanks in advance.
If your essay is anything like your post, I think you might want to go back to the drawing board. You say the reason you're asking is because you need a second opinion, but you never say about what.

Ya know, Neo, I was saying "right on!" to all your posts until I got to this:

Discloses a blind spot, I think, since the point of a belief is that it has no evidence to "support it." That's why it's a belief.

I'd like to thank you all for a wonderful thread. It was very entertaining for me to read all these thoughts, alternately hair-brained and brilliant as they were.

But, getting back to OP's question, the short answer is "No." You can't prove the existence the god through human behavior. You can only demonstrate the existence of a human belief in god.

Or, phrasing the matter another way: "Can you prove the existence of love through human behavior?"

one.m, I wonder if you look at hurricanes, floods, death, poverty, famine, plagues, aids, disease and birth defects, and see the results of God's existence too.

now I want to ask you a question. If God is perfect, why did he create the universe? What could possibly cause a perfect entity who's existed forever to suddenly get bored one day and create the universe?

as you just said yourself: boredom.
and the hurricanes, floods etc. are meant as a punishment, like back in the days of babylon or sodom and gomorrha.

And again, to our god-supporting creationists: WHO CREATED GOD?

Did God create him(it)self? Or did he(it) just pop out of thin air? Or is there a power higher than God that created God?

God exists for people because they want him to. They need God and religion for guidance and balance and purpose in their life. They don't want to believe we were created from tangible or measurable or naturally occuring things such as matter or energy, because it means they are essentially alone in this world and they can't bear that thought.

Hey, if enough people tell you that leprechauns EXIST even though you can't see them, you'll eventually start to talk yourself into it and you will believe it over time. You can persuade you brain into any sort of false reality you like, if you really want to. Doesn't mean it exists.
