I would still offer to help. If we are going on a date, that means I really like her. So of course I'll help her fix it. Bonus points for me. If it's cheap and I can't fix it, I'll still lend her the money. If she rips me off, I probably save more money in the long run cuz I normally pay for my dates. lol It's really not about helping a girl out. I normally do that for any friend and sometimes help out strangers who are in a bind. I only do that with small amount of money cuz it doesn't bother me one bit if I don't get it back. In fact, I usually offer the money with no need to repay me. Helping people out is money well spent in my book.

Not everyone can afford a nice amazing car and i'd say it matters more whether or not the car is clean inside, meaning even if you don't have a nice car you take care of it at least. And bf's are not expected to pay for car maintenance, that's ridiculous. That's like saying 'hey my shirt ripped, buy me another one'. Not all old cars are bound to break down all the time either, as long as it's well-kept.

No I don't care if she has a car or not. If I'm dating you it's obviously because I like you. And if I like you it doesn't matter to me if you drive an old car or have no car. I seriously never thought guys cared what kinda cars girls drive. I thought it was always the other way round.

I don't date women just so I can get laid. That's what escorts are for. If I go out on a date with a woman, I'm looking for long-term potential. Third date rule may seem shallow, but if things aren't at least moving in that direction by the third date, I assume that she isn't very interested in sex, either with me or in general. So the car matters, because if we get serious, her car problems will become my problems. I don't see how a woman could be happy dating a guy who is indifferent and unhelpful to her problems, especially if that guy has a lot of disposable income.

For what it's worth, I'm not a rich guy, but in a typical month, I only spend about half of my take-home pay. I'm usually trying to save for something. Emergencies. The down payment on the house I'm buying later this year. My current job is great, but I expect to lose this job in roughly two-three years when our current investors sell the company, so I want some extra money then in case my job search takes a while. And if I really care about a woman and she can't get to work without her car, yeah, I'm going to help her.

So if I'm thinking about a first date with a woman who is driving a 23 year-old car (that was the example at the start of this thread), I'm going to be less interested because she looks like a potential financial disaster. Why can't she afford a newer car? Is she lazy? Is she irresponsible? Does she have gigantic student loan debt? It's a warning sign that shouldn't be ignored.

Well, if she has a gigantic student loan debt and is drivng an old car, that could potentially mean she's putting her paycheck towards the loans. I think it would be more financially irresponsible to purchase a new, 25k car when you're loan is a minimum of 25k.

There are plenty of people out there buying out of their means. I've seen it. Cleaning lady working on $11/hr buys a 35k SUV. Is that responsible?

Driving an SUV is a different warning sign to me. Somebody who thinks that wasting $400 a month on gas is a good idea is not the kind of person that I want to get involved with either.

My boyfriend wont go anywhere in the car with me unless absolutely essential! I have a van (which isnt practical to drive about anywhere) and a car that he find highly embarasssing (not because it is old...its quite new- but the style) Obviously its not an issue enough for him to not be with me...just means he drives more and i get to drink and he doesnt!!

I'd be massively embarrassed to date someone who drives a mini van.

Yeah, but it's still nice to be able to get around in a 12 inch per hour snowstorm

Besides, the RAV4 and Honda CRV get pretty good gas mileage

Here's a little reverse psychology for you. Before I bought my current vehicle, which I absolutely love and am quite proud of..I drove an ugly beat up mobile. Dents and rust everywhere. My driver's side door didn't even work correctly. There were guys I wouldn't date because of MY OWN car. I was embarrassed. I was ashamed of my car, even though it never left me stranded, always got me where I needed to go, and was good on gas, not to mention a versatile vehicle..it just wasn't pretty enough by my own standards for me to date a guy with a nicer car.

    Thinking back..what a weirdo I was!

i dont think it really matters what kind of car a gurl drive. but then if a guy did not like her car, they can always use the guy car when going for date I suppose~
