I agree what you did was just fine....giving her condolances and leaving her alone to be with her family. A card and flowers is not necessary unless she lost her mother recently.....this was 3 years ago, and you weren't even in the picture then so there was nothing more you needed to do.

She will be back to her normal self in a few days so just wait til she is done with her grieving.

You did fine..you let her know you were thinking of her. No reason to over think it now.

Thanks, I thought it was stupid saying, have a good day. But I didn't want to make her feel worse

    That's why I asked
I obviously can't speak for her but for most women, flowers are rarely too much for an occasion.

How you handled it was perfect, gracious. Think about it this way - she couldn't really care about how you were or weren't there for her, unless you were a total douche who didn't even remember and called her that night blabbing away about how your buddies came over to watch football and there were some really hot babes at the club last weekend. Unless you did that, you're fine. Give her time and her own space, just be on call

As someone who also deals with things by myself, I would say what you did was fine, you showed you were thinking of her without smothering, if I was her I would have appreciated the contact and the space.
