Well, of course you don't feel "normal". You aren't. Your life is not that of the average 16-year-old.
I know a little bit about where you're coming from. When I was your age, the track coach tried to scout me for the cross-country team because I was skinny and had long legs. I was skinny, in part, because we didn't have a lot of food around because my family was poor too. I didn't join the track team. Why? There was no way in hell my parents were going to buy me running shoes.
I don't know what will work for you, but what worked for me was the school drama department. Being in school plays was free, so it was perfect for my budget, and it provided lots of social opportunities. Could you do something like this?
