The more you breathe it, the easier it gets.

    Just like smoking a cigarette.

Part, yes... THE problem... no... to much attention goes to second hand smoke. Meanwhile more urgent matters seem to be 'forgotten' or put on the backburner.

I simply dislike people who use smokers as a scapegoat for everything that goes wrong, including the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Nm.. you can blame that on them.

If people weren't so rude and only smoked in designated areas then I wouldn't care. I'm not saying it's the biggest reason why the place is polluted, I am only saying it's disgusting.
Agreed, it's disrespectfull. And you have the fullest right to bitch about that. No complaints from my end here. Go kick their asses.

Mbe. But why is it that those who complain the loudest are usually the ones doing the least?

haha i find it funny that so many people think that i'm a smoker because i don't agree with the cigarette tax... umm... i don't smoke.

however, this goes to saying that since mcdonalds tend to kill us at a slow rate and it's obviously bad for our health, we should impose a fast food tax.

regardless of what i think, there will always be taxes, and there will always be people dying because they want just a bit more of satisfaction in life. i shrug my shoulders at the things that we argue too much over.

The Obama administration really just saw potential tax revenues for cigarette taxes, that's why the price is increasing and some kinds of cigarettes are getting banned. The liberal talk of it though is just that "Oh yeah, smoking is unhealthy and therefore taxes will reduce the amount of smokers"

You'd think they'd encourage more smoking if they could get a dime out of it.

If environment is the concern, better to focus on regrowth from forest fires.

Annual forest fires (large, not counting small ones--most natural due to lightning strikes) burns about 15 million hectares a year. For context, 1 ha = 10000 sq metres.

Breathing the local air from ones like in BC or Cali recently is like smoking 40 cigs a day.

Smoking is a gross habit, and at 6 trillion annually (or something like), that's a lot of smoke but hard to compare to natural forest fires.

Then under the same line of reasoning, would you say prostitution should be legal?

Hell, yes, prostitution should be legal. So should all drugs. Tax the hell out of all of it and put the money into social programs.

It's been shown that second hand smoke is potentially more harmful than first hand smoke. Anyway, I like how you zealously defend smoking but it's a pointless argument because the fact of the matter is that smoking is bad.

Your justification for smoking is that it creates less negative utility than car pollution or a crying baby. But that's not the point. Given the option of smoking or no smoking, it should be obvious that no smoking is better. Your argument is like saying I joined my friends in beating up some guy but what I did was ok cuz they were using bats and I just kicked the guy a few times.

For whatever reason, you are favorable to smokers and make irrational justifications to support it.

Incidentally, read the Wikipedia entry on cognitive dissonance.

And what's up with the site lagging every time I try to post links?
