why do i keep running into articles about americans getting arrested in places that we are very publicly in conflict with?

i don't get it. wtf are they doing there? hiking? do they not know that the whole western part of the u.s. has incredible mountains you can hike in without getting arrested by some corrupt and brutal government?

it pisses me off that we have to send people out to look for them.

those people were crazy for going there. took an enormous risk.

We have the Caribbean just south of us, why not go there? Or for hiking, like you said, there is the Grand Canyon... or go someplace nearby and save some money

I try to resist the urge to feel sorry for them. They were apparently warned multiple times to turn back, but chose not to. People like this remind me of the religious missionaries that keep getting abducted in Afghanistan and Iraq. If you are there voluntarily, and you have been warned of the dangers, then... eh. suck it up.
