    Term paper question

Can you use "I" in a term paper? My stupid bitch of an English teacher told me that my introduction is not an introduction. It goes like this:

" Linux is a free operating system available for computers. It has many features that one would find blocked off on Windows, and hidden by Macintosh: a fully functional terminal, the right to edit system files and source code, a large selection of desktop environments, and more. Although these features sound irrelevant, they give Linux many advantages over Windows and Macintosh."

Okay. Not very detailed, it should be longer. But at the top of my ****ing paper, she wrote in big capital letters "NEED AN INTRODUCTION"

So here I am writing a new introduction. It goes like this:

"Mrs. P. is a ****ing bitch...." just kidding, it goes like this:

"When using a Windows or Mac computer, I get very frustrated. Something always goes wrong; the computer crashes in the middle of a very important term paper, and when I reboot, the data is corrupt..."

It goes like that. I'm not sure if it's correct, but I feel like my pen is using shit for ink. Seriously, I don't feel like it's an introdution because i was taught to not use "I" back in the grade school. So please help!

    Yay Linux!!!!!1one

Intro's and conlusions are really there to cover the "So What?" factor in a paper... They should show why what you say is important... You seem to have covered this in your first intro...

I was trying to remember what my eigth grade english teacher told us about writing an intro... I google'd it and found it...

--Begin with a quotation. Just make sure you explain its relevance

    --Begin with a question

--Begin with an acknowledgment of an opinion opposite to the one you plan to take

--Begin with a very short narrative or anecdote that has a direct bearing on your paper

    --Begin with an interesting fact

--Begin with a definition or explanation of a term relevant to your paper

    --Begin with irony or paradox

--Begin with an analogy. Make sure it's original but not too far-fetched

I always liked to begin with a paradox...

To answer your original question, try to avoid using "I". It makes your paper seem weak...

I is a big no-no, as is you. Say something like.... using Mac and Windows computers can be very frustrating or is very frustrating for some/many. Just don't say I. That's bad. Bad bad bad. Maybe not so much in high school, but in college I think it's justification for your professor to castrate you with a butter knife.

Never use "I" when writing an objective paper.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
