    Car vs Motorcycle

So, as I went on a bit of a bike trip with a friend of mine earlier today we got talking about it a bit, and while I haven't any plans to get either anytime soon (2 more years of studies, a minimum of 1 year of work and then it'll be a possibility) I figured I'd ask you lads about the pros and cons of each.

I know the varieties make it a bit edgy, but say if we would take your average average car and motorcycle and compile a list as a comparison against eachother. We probably have enthusiasts of each.

    CAR

    Pros :
    • Safer
    • Several passengers
    • Large storage sections
    • Better for longer trips
    • No need for protective clothing
    • Less concentration required

    Cons :
    • Relatively fuel-inefficient
    • Parking Costs
    • Traffic Jams (?)

    MOTORCYCLE

    Pros :
    • Better for short distances / cities
    • No Parking Costs
    • Less affected by traffic jams (?)
    • Fuel-efficient
    • Sexier (?)
    • More interactive / fun (?)

    Cons :
    • Not as safe
    • Only one passenger
    • Limited storage
    • Demands more concentration
    • Protective Clothing

    Shared Qualities :
    • Pricing (?)

Personally I find motorcycles to be more exciting and "cool" to ride, but are lacking in utility and seems more like a possibility for a first purchase before becoming locked in the demand for a family car/job-related transport/transporting multiple friends.

So yeah, give me your two cents until all of the cents are gathered up in a large pile that is sufficient enough for the first purchase.

As a primary mode of transportation, I'd go with a car because of it being more practical. Get the motorcycle 2nd.

FYI - females only consider motorcycles "cool" as long as they don't have anywhere to go. They are murder on the hair.

So in that case, what would the best sequence be?

It does seem as if having a car is a good first buy and then afterwards getting a bike, but then again if I'll be primarily working for the years after graduating a bike works better to fulfill that and a car is more suitable for having a family. Especially since I reckon getting a cheap bike simply to get to a workplace that isnt covered by public transport is way easier than the breakdown possibility/repairs of a car for the same price.

The loss-out in that case is that I wouldn't be able to transport friends around. Hmm.

I'm probably deluding myself, but still, I just find the lifestyle appealing if I 1. Would be driving a motorcycle (or a cool car, e.g. the latest Mitsubishi Lancer that is within the price range, but most cars are just boring) 2. Architecture yay yay 3. I'd probably want a husky . Haven't decided what type of housing I'd be interested in, maybe a flat to begin with until I feel ready to invest in a house in the suburbs. Dont want to make any large investments either as Im unsure whether Ill stay in Australia or not after graduating.

    Im just ranting a bit.
