    Dealing with difficult text

How do you deal with difficult text? The sentence structures are complicated and I need to get through the books as fast as I can because of the time constraint I have to do my research essay. I usually read the intro and the conclusions first to help me understand the text better. But do you guys have any other advice?

Skim over it and then read it. That's all you can do.

Read it out loud. It enhances understanding, at least for me, to read it AND hear it.

Ugh. I hate dense text. Sometimes it's a good idea to look elsewhere for understanding and then come back to the original work. Sometimes if I can't understand an article in a scientific periodical I'll look up a wiki entry or something to get the gist and then come back to it.

This is why I will never touch an Arts subject ever again.

Big words, simple meanings, waste of ****ing time.

See if there is a cliff notes.

I would usually read those first, then go back and read the text. It would help me understand what was going on.
