    New Tattoo

I'm wanting to get a new tattoo.

Okay before we go any further, yes I know its permanent...I'm going to get it regardless of what you say....I'm lookin at you Vashti....I mean mom.

As a lot of you know my degrees are in ancient history and classic cultures.

I'm thinkin about gettin a tat on my right upper arm where my shirt will cover. I'm wanting to put the names of my two favorite gods there.

Dionysus and Apollo...they are also both names of animals I bottle raised at the zoo who I'm very attached to....Dionysus is a young camel and Apollo is a young lion....they were both rescues...thats why I had to bottle raise them.

I'm thinking about putting a sun on my arm and then arching over the top put Dionysus and underneath arching up put Apollo.

What do you guys think? Anybody have any ideas for something better besides the sun? I've been thinkin about this for like a year and its all that will pop in my head. I suppose I could go and talk to the guys at dragon slayer and see if they can think of something but I kinda wanta really know what I'm gonna get since it is gonna be stuck on me.

All my tats have something to do with ancient history....on my left arm it says "Morituri te salutamus"

I have stars on each of my knees and above my right star it says "Princeps" and above my left it says "vini, vidi, vici"

I know I'm a total nerd...and if you know Latin and the meaning of tats I also think highly of myself.

I wanted to get a swastika tattoo, but what is now my g/f said she wouldn't be friends with me if I did.

Wasn't Dionsysus the god of alcohol and orgies?

Yea I wouldn't talk to you either.

He was known for his wine and sexual festivities yes....but that isn't all he did.

I like Dionysus and Apollo...I always think of them as the god of partying and the god of enlightenment....the two parts that I believe make up me. I love to learn and I love to party.

You're all a bunch of uptight bigots.

Anyway, I feel like if you've already got a bunch of tattoos, what's a couple more?

Y would you want a swastika unless you believed in what it symbolized?

I can't imagine marking myself with that even if I meant it as a joke....its not funny.

C'mon history buff, you shouldn't even have to ask that question.

It doesn't matter if it was originally a peaceful symbol...the modern connotation brings up images of the holocaust and general hatred....go back a few thousand years and yea you wouldn't have a problem with it passing as something good but now...no.

    Go back a thousand years?

Is that how long Nazi germany was in power?

In any case, if it wouldn't garner so much attention I would have done it a long time ago.

    The swastika is overrated.

I'm sure you could think of a few symbols that should be treated just the same if you gave it any thought.

I'm more of a Poseidon and Ares fan myself. God of the sea and god of war....pretty much have the bases covered, lol.

If I ever got a tattoo for any reason, it would have to be something really extremely ridiculous that I would regret for the rest of my life.

Anyway, what do I think? Can't be any worse than a prince albert!

^^^are you making a joke based on a previous thread of mine?...you know I have one down there right?

I want them to mean something to me...the ones I have mean something to me and this one for example is going to not only have the meaning of the animals I love but also represent what I consider my two sides to be....they clash every now and then.

None of them found it offensive, but I was amongst a group that enjoyed calling each other by their derogatory names.

I invented my own swastika on a napkin in an IHOP.

I used to use it as my avatar here, haven't used it in a while, though.
