How do I handle this issue tactfully?

I connected with a man on an online dating site. We've been communicating for awhile. I like his personality, he seems kind and thoughtful, everything about him "online" is great. We met in person a few days ago. The first thing I noticed is an unpleasant body odor. How do I go about addressing this tactfully??!! or is this a definite deal breaker? This is the only bad thing about him that I've noticed (so far)..

Meet up with him again and see if persists. Maybe he just got done working out and didn't have time to shower.

If he smells bad again, then it's time to say something. This isn't something to be tactful about. Just say, I really like you, but if you want to keep seeing me, you need to shower before we meet. He'll be embarrassed, but its doubtful he would end things over you being honest, and he'll probably appreciate the help.

He might be clueless about this. One of my close friends in high school had strong body odor, but he was otherwise a really great guy. Finally, during a quiet moment of spring break week, I asked him when he had last showered. He turned red and admitted that it had been a week. "A week! Jesus, Dave!" (Tact was not my strong point back then.) The following year, he joined the National Guard, and they taught him all about basic hygiene. During college, our group of mutual friends also coached him on other basic etiquette like chewing with his mouth closed. He married a woman that he started dating in grad school and they are still together after nearly 20 years. My friend is now an assistant principal at a high school and also a Lieutenant Colonel in the National Guard Reserves.
Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from bad decisions.

Send him a text and tell him. Some people do have thyroid issues that make them sweat more and produce a horrible body ordor that is hard for them to control. So it might be a health issue. Maybe ask him if he does have any health issues to lead into it.
