Isn't it worth just giving it a go? As you know I can't exactly speak from experience but surely it can't hurt to get out there and give it a go. And I reckon it is highly unlikely every girl around is as you described them to be, perhaps seeing if you can meet girls at mutual interests. And if you describe yourself as having esoteric interests, by definition there must be a group out there who share your interest, or close to it?
