I really hope when you fall, it isn't on your back.

You will have to fall face down on DM.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

i was in gigaville today snowboarding for the first time this season. today my knees hurt like a mf, we'll see what else hurts tomorrow i guess. i had a blast. i'm getting better, though i still fall on my face and my ass a lot. i'd like to have a whole ski resort to myself. maybe when i'm a millionaire.

Good to see that you're sticking with it. The thing about learning to ride is that it is a pain in the ass (literally) to get the basics down. But once you get the basics down, the learning curve is huge. You'll be tearing down the mountain in no time. Just try to keep yourself from getting frustrated and if you ever get too tired, just chill and take a breather.

thanks greek! how long have you been boarding?

i'm trying now to get carving down. i am starting to be able to go fast an have a subtle carve going on, but when i start going too fast and carve to the back edge and stop myself, which sucks because i'd rather be able to carve and control my speed without stopping. also i can't tell what my natural footing is. i ride down regular ways, but i turn goofy footed. it's confusing.

    i can barely move today.

I've been boarding twice. About to go a third time in March. It doesn't sound like much, but on my 2nd trip, I was going down blacks. The only problem was that it was the end of the day on a sloppy/slushy run and I was getting very tired. It sounds like you have your speed checking down. As for carving, what I found works is this:

When going from heel-to-toe transition, point your left toes down and pull your right toes up. This will flex the board. If you do this and lean on your forward foot, it helps your board to turn and keep your balance. Don't overtwist your body either to try and compensate and to keep you balance.

When going from toe-to-heel, pull your left toes up, point your right toes down and lean down-mountain.

That's what I found worked for me. Good luck and stick with it, because once you get it, you'll never go back to skiing (coming from a guy who skiied for 7 years and comfortably did blacks with the occasional double diamond).

I built an igloo behind my house a couple of days ago. On the inside it's really spacious but you can't tell because the depth cues aren't really there and you can't see that side. The whole thing is almost as tall as me (6 feet) but we got more snow so it doesn't look like it. Which is actually pretty cool because it almost sealed the entrance, so now it seems like the entrance goes down and into the igloo inside of just into the igloo

wow. see people who know how to ski can pick it up fast. i've never skied in my life.

the leaning down the mountain thing is really hard. ones instinct is to lean back. which is why riding down on one edge is so easy.

thanks for the tips. i'll read it again before i go next time.

dm, that's a cool igloo. that's a hell of a lot of snow.
