Cain, that is awesome. If law makes you happy and you find it interesting, go for it. There are tons of things you can do with a law degree, including becoming president, lol.

    Go, go, go!

I'm with AJ, too. I know you seem to fall for girls that are far away Cain, but after having come out of an LDR, perhaps it's really time for girl-searching locally?
Ultimately, I'm going to be dealing with an LDR at some point over the next seven years. I'm going where I want to go in order to further my degree and career. Because of that, I'm bound to have to deal with distance again when I change schools and states.

I don't search them out. I'd prefer to have a local girl, but if I find someone that I find to be pretty damn awesome, I'm willing to give it a shot so long as the distance isn't huge. Coincidentally, the distance with the new girl is only two hours and it will only last until I switch over to that school. I'm still looking at other schools in my state, but so far I'm liking the political science program at that school. Plus, it's semesters and most others around me are quarters. I hate quarters.
    I don't chase, I replace.

I just find it so much more interesting. I just got back from visiting the girl I'm talking to and seeing her studying her biochem and studying for the MCAT just turned me off and reinforced my decision that law is what I want to do.

Who knows? Maybe in 30 years you'll be seeing me run for President.

I met the former Attorney General of Mexico a few weeks back. The man knew he wanted to be a lawyer since the age of 6. He never worked for a private firm, always for the government. Very interesting man.
"Well, then," the Cat went on, "you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad."

Bullshit. LOL, what do his parents do? Makes a great story tho, and no doubt he's interesting.

    Stop being a turd, DM.

She's actually doing research that is MUCH more interesting than medicine. Medicine is just upscale car mechanic work.

I just downloaded software to my ipod that lets me diagnose most common ailments about as well as my medico: WebMD.

    ... what?

He said she was studying for the MCAT. Knocking medicine is knocking both of us, not just me. If your statement was meant to differentiate us, which I think it is, it isn't exactly working. IS she even doing research? He said she was simply studying for biochem

And by being pussy, I meant studying for the MCAT and Cains reaction to her studying for the MCAT

And yes, I would rather start amassing money (beginning with income from an anaesthesiologists or plastic surgeons salary) than be a nobody researcher with a lame lifestyle

DM, Cains GF is doing medical research. I think its more interesting than MCATs. If you want to know more, ask Cain.

As for income you are, again, demonstrating your ignorance. Why don't you look up the salary of a full professor at a good school? I think I may have mentioned before but our neighbours are MDs and we make more than them, better hours, no malpractice insurance and no debt when we graduated.

I don't know too many MDs (unless they teach at a medical school) who get a full year off w/pay, either. You won't get to do what we are doing right now. Pretty lame, eh?

Do it b/c you enjoy it, DM. I keep telling you this. If you want money, there are far easier jobs that will make you as much or more.

? Cains GF is doing MCATs stuff, not just medical research....

And if I wanted to go into research, I would be majoring in physical chemistry to become a physical organic chemist or something

And MDs make different amounts depending on what they do. Anaesthesiologists average more than $250k per year. A good plastic surgeon can easily make over $1 million a year. That, to me, will be the beginning of investing that money with the help of my family

I believe she is doing both, DM. Again, you should ask Cain. All I'm saying is that I think her research sounds more interesting than prepping for MCATs.

If you should change your mind about research, PM me. P-chem is not where the money is going these days. Unless you want to get into alternative energy research, in which case there are other things you want to get trained in also.

Well if you learned chem and bio and physics at any level of difficulty you shouldn't even have to prep for the MCATs

btw, US $250,000 is about CDN $310,000

Yeah, but your comparison was likely with samples drawn from above the mean in the case of professors and below in the case of MDs

And besides, Canadian doctors aren't allowed much work if I recall. Wouldn't they make less than US doctors? (a serious question)

Our neighbours each make around 80 - 100K, DM. I dunno what their expenses are like tho. One has an office, the other out of a clinic.

But they are GPs. And they have kids. And a pretty good lifestyle.

Yes, US docs make a lot more than in Canada. Seriously. But they also pay a lot more for their schooling. In fact, the smartest ones I met was a hem-onc couple who got their training at McGill and came to practice in Boston. THEY are disgustingly wealthy. You might want to apply there just for the hell of it, in case you don't get in first try in US.

But, I wouldn't swap their jobs for mine ever. I have no desire to be around all that death.
