Hard to say how he would deal with loss. Could be he is over her and wouldn't give it a second thought, no need for a "rebound" girl at all. I say enjoy the ride and see what happens. You start to worry about it he will be able to tell and that could cause trouble where none existed to begin with. If you are afraid of getting hurt then just don't date, it's part of life. Reminds me of a quote: "Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will." Don't know who said it though.
