I'm from Scotland so I'm not sure. My Uncle lives in Texas, I've been there a few times and going on Friday. I like it there

Been to Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. Texas or Florida was my favourite, probably because I spent the most time there though.

It depends on what you are wanting to see. Obviously, I love California. We have at least one great city (San Fransisco), but also smaller great cities along the coast. For the young at heart, we have world famous theme parks (Disneyland, Universal Studios, Magic Mountian), mountains, deserts, beaches, wine country, farmland, and most importantly, beautiful National Parks. We have a diverse population, which means good ethnic food, beautiful neighborhoods, scary neighborhoods. You can go white water rafting, camping, caving, skiing, fishing... pretty much any outdoor activity one might be interested in.

I think it is best you try to decide what kind of vacation you want to have, and then it will be easier to suggest a location.

If you have to go the mainland, I'd suggest Northern Michigan near Sault Ste Marie around July or August. You've got the best of both worlds (a bridge to carry you to Canada when you need a break), plenty of beautiful outdoor scenery, easy going people who've yet to see the full influx of fudgies descend upon their doorstep and pay big cash for their simple homesteads, and an all around unique holiday experience.

Fishing, hiking, hunting, boating, the quiet... cheaper rates, more down to earth Americans, and enough fresh water to nearly give Mars an atmosphere.

    Go the U.P.

Heh, I think if I was going to suggest two states NOT to visit under any circumstances, it would be Texas and Florida. Florida is too hot and humid, and Texas... well, let's just say I thought you wanted to visit the US.

New England states are good for some beautiful scenery and landscapes (especially the coast). Otherwise I would recommend the Southwest, but that's just personal preference.

If you want to see a melting pot of people, then I'd consider California or New York. It really depends on how old you are and what you're into ... but these two represent city life, I think.

If you come to New England in the fall you can be a leafer.

Personally, I've always wanted to see California, but haven't had my chance to go yet :-( I also hear Northern Cali and Oregon are beautiful. I'm headed to Oregon to visit a friend in August.
