Mixed signals

I met this girl a few months back, we started hanging out, nothing serious just enjoying each other's company. It was fun, but I began having feeling for her. I told her, and she felt the same. Things were good for a bit, but one day she told me she just wanted a friend right now. That both our lives were to complicated for anything more. I told her, that I couldn't see her as just a friend, she began to cry and not want to lose me. Something about it felt off. Maybe I was cruel, or maybe there was something more then what she was saying but I've been getting mixed signals, and I'm kinda tired of the back forth.

Nothing worse than being someone's emotional tampon. She is broken, probably still hung up on an ex or getting over a breakup. You did nothing wrong by stating the obvious, that you don't want to be just friends. It was fair IMO to say so. Sounds to me she is a hot mess/unstable, so a relationship with her wouldn't be a good idea anyways. Stand up for yourself....you don't want to be invested if nothing is going to progress. You are best to break it off and find someone who will be available to you.

I agree with hazey, you were already friendzoned. So your confession meant the loss of a "girl-friend" as she sees you. If you're looking for a relationship, then make it clear from the start.
