I see only a few possible causes..

1. All these guys were either taken or blind.

2. You spent so long getting to know them, that you were in the friend zone by the time you showed interest..

3. some kind of giant flaw in your personality. This is the first thing I thought of, but having read the posts it just seems kind of unlikely. And besides, we know that flaws seldom stop people from having relationships.

1averagejoe- I have asked out guys numerous times (probably about 20-30 guys I've made the first move on over the years) As I mentioned before I have done this in a variety of ways- just being blunt and telling them how I feel, inviting them for coffee/dinner/other activity, doing something physically obvious like kissing them or taking their hand, etc. I always get either- hey, I'm flattered but you're not my type, or I'm just not into you as more than friends.

Original poster - I think there must be a big disconnect between what you think you are portraying to the world, and what you actually ARE portraying. I like Giga's advice about a dating coach or finding someone who will be completely honest with you (NOT your friends).

I think I'm a pretty interesting and unique person overall. I'm reasonably attractive (have modelled professionally- 5'8/125), have an career primarily as a musician and occasional indie news writer and also environmental consultant, am not obnoxiously extroverted but comfortably outgoing...

other than men much older than me... or lesbian or bisexual women...

I definitely have taken the initiative in trying to start relationships...

from a superficial point of view. maybe you're ugly. i wouldn't have a steady relationship with some of my friends because i can't stand to wake up to them every morning, but they are my friends. there are times that we get horny and drunk, however, if the sparks aren't there, then the dice don't roll.
