    Taking Woodstock

Anyone else see the movie? I'm surprised Ang Lee (of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon fame) could direct a 60's woodstock movie so well. It was a movie that really resonated with me, especially the acid scene (note: I've never done acid or shrooms).

I ended up wathing Woodstock: Three Days of Peace & Music, the documentary from 1969 (won the Academy Award for best documentary), and I was shocked to see just how spot on so much of the movie was, and just how factually accurate the film really was. A lot of the stuff I thought was made up or just put in for comedic purposes was literally true down to the last detail.

My main gripe with the complete lack of any Woodstock music in the movie. I don't think you should be allowed to make a movie about one of the most important concerts of the 20th century, and then never include any of its music. Some Jimi Hendrix, Sly & the Family, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, or Santana would have complemented the scenes nicely. I'm upset with the soundtrack, but good film overall, and I liked a lot of the messages in it.

That and the transvestite was hilarious. "Oh I've got uniforms, babe."

Haven't seen it yet but I plan to.
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
    blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
