Friday I started to get this new server machine together because I was bored. It was quite fun actually, and its a pretty nice server. I've worked on it since friday to last night and I got 3 things working on it so far. HTTP, FTP, and IRC. The HTTP server has a default Apache page right now because I lost all my websites I've built when I last backed everything up.. The FTP is empty and servs no purpose except for my personal uses. The IRC server is up and is linked with the network again. Everyone was excited to see me back there again, especially my wingman, Ian. He calls this my "Big Come Back Special" lol.
Last night was the night I really got into the mode of things. I started coding scripts, and doing all the old things I used to do that make me happy. I find maintaining an entire network satisfies me for some reason. You all wouldn't understand. But I took charge over the network again and things are starting to happen again. Since I've been gone the network hasnt had much use at all. No one harly uses it, we lost a few members, and no new members have joined. The website for the network is even WAY outdated its not even funny.
I left Ian in charge of the network when I took my little "down time" and toi be honest, I think he did a shit job with it. Some people aren't meant to lead I guess.. He is better as an assistant, i.e., my wingman.
So, now that I am back, I am going to get the network at its peak again running smoothly. I will regain services which for some reason Ian took down.. I will rebuild a new updated website for the network. Then I will get all the advertising back into play again. Once advertised, users should start comming in slowly. Then we will be advertised by word of mouth and the flowage of new users will steadily rise for awhile. And thus the network will be back in business.
The network holds 3 servers atm. NL, Canada - Holland - Houston, Texas.
I am currently in the process of getting a second Houston server up and running (my brother's server) - and I also am in the process of training someone in Maryland, USA to run a server. If he passes my courses I give him will will then gain a server in Maryland, USA.
I am trying to get a network spread out all over the world, and so I am recruiting new servers across the globe. If you have at least a 3mbit connection, and a dedicated server machine (no server/desktop combination machines) to run 24/7, have at least 95% uptime, and want to learn more about what I am talking about and/or this post has interested you, then please send me a PM in LF stating "I want to now more about pl3x!!" and I will then send you information on when, where, and how to connect to the network and join in on a meeting. The owners and I are gathering required materials and we will host a meeting soon.
This meeting will contain exactly what we are, what we do, why we do it, and how it benefits you as a client (normal user that just connects to talk, doesnt run any servers, and doesnt seem to care much about servers, let alone not knowing anything about them), and for NetAdmins (a NetAdmin is someone that owns a server that is linked to the network. there is 1 netadmin per server - i'll explain more at the meeting).
What is my network ? What does it do ? Where can I find it at ? You have any other questions ? PM me on LF (this site) with the subject line as "I want to now more about pl3x!!" and I will get back to you with a meeting date and time with specific instructions on what program(s) you will need to have and how to run set them up so that you can connect to the network, and then instructions to join the neeting. In the body (main part) of the PM please tell me what your connection speed is (dialup, 64,128, adsl, dsl, dsl512, cable 1mbit, cable 3mbit, etc etc), your processor speed (500mHz, 1.0gHz, 2.0 gHz, 2.6 gHz, etc), your ram (256 sdr, 512 sdr, 256, ddr, 512 ddr, 1gb ddr, etc etc), and most importantly what OS (operating system) you use (Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Pro, Debian Linux: Sarge, Mandrake Linux 9.1, Red Hat Linux 7.2, Mac OSx, etc etc)...
Your PM MUST contain this information so that I can make sure I give you specific instructions so that you can connect to the network. Instructions will be different for each machine and OS. I will also tell you what your capabilites are (server, client, nothing, etc etc) so that you will know your limits befoer you join the meeting.
I will not go into any further details atm about this issue. I will say this tho: The meeting will happen between September 24, 2004 and October 4, 2004. The meeting will last anywhere from 1-5 hours depending on how many questions are asked and the amount of people showing.
Deadline for your request PM's is at 12:00am CST September 22, 2004. this will give me at least 2 days to make sure I get all the requests replied to.
Thank you.
