What's the difference between infatuation and being in love?

In love is something that grows over time. Whereas anyone could technically be infatuated with anyone else as long as they think theyre attractive.

Infatuation:
1 : to cause to be foolish : deprive of sound judgment
2 : to inspire with a foolish or extravagant love or admiration

Love: (remember this definition isnt IN LOVE but just LOVE... if you think there is no difference refer to this definition

(1) : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties <maternal love for a child> (2) : attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3) : affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests <love for his old schoolmates> b : an assurance of love <give her my love>

I think the above definition applies better to in love.. rather than love. Different dictionaries say different things I'm sure.
I think love is deeper than just a sexual attraction. I think love is caring for who the person is, even their faults. I think the real definition of love is in the Bible. Anyway this post is about in love sorry...lol

I think infatuation is the initial feeling you get towards someone, when the person makes you happy and you think about them all the time.. It's not as serious as being in love (which some in this forum will say develops over time).

But I wouldn't know. I've only been infatuated with people, but haven't been in love yet.

Very often, these two things are confused between couples.... People think they love someone but its actually Infatuation.
If you want to test if its Love or Infatuation, TIME is the thing that shows the difference.

Try a week or two without the guy or girl. If you still got the "in-love feeling" - Its more then likely your in love.

btw, I said week or two for example. It all depends on the person.

Yeah, but sometimes when you're completely infatuated with someone, you'll miss them a lot too, especially more so when you don't get to explore what it could have been like.

And I have felt the "miss" feeling also, feels much different then the love one.

these things are hard to say, huh?
for a while, i thought i was in-love. now, i'm pretty certain it's just an infatuation that will eventually fade with time. But the thing is I don't know how I arrived at the conlcusion that it's just an infatuation.

Exactly that's what I've always thought. EG: I guess it doesn't matter as long as you're both happy in the relasionship. I've been in one for about 2 months now and I'm so worried about about splitting up because the pain from my last relasionship was so bad, worth the risk though.
